This is a letter from President Harry S Truman written on White House stationery to then Director of the Office of Defense Transportation John ( J. )

Monroe Johnson. It is dated February 6th 1948. The letter itself is typed on a 8 3/4” x14” sheet of paper that has been folded in half, making it approximately 8 3/4” x 7”. It is thicker than 20lb bond paper and has a watermark that you can see when held up to the light that reads “ Whiting's Woven Linen” along with their logo. From what I was able to research, this paper company supplied stationery for many of the government offices: senate, house, president, etc. The linen made the paper more elegant and durable. The watermark is very faint but visible when looking at the page normally. (See photo). Also included and stapled to the letter is an envelope addressed to Johnson from the White House.

The condition of this letter is really good for its age, mostly clean and no tears. The upper right side of the letter has a minor spot near the date as well as some minor discoloration along the upper right side as well as the back of the letter/envelope (See photos). Overall, very well preserved.

We included in the photos some information about Monroe Johnson that was posted on the FDR library website.

We have some other Johnson ephemera letters/Christmas cards etc from 1933 that I will be listing. Most are personal Christmas cards to him and his wife. Some were sent from dignitaries including from American Legion presidents and foreign ambassadors from other countries including the first ambassador to the US from the Soviet Union.
