In cast iron, rare type with paint and openwork bust portrait of Washington facing left with in the blade portion.. Original paint remains in exceptional condition..Choice Extremely Fine.. This is an authentic large 12 inch size with early tasseled cord for hanging wall display..Embossed along the length of handle is "Washington Inaugurated President of the US- Apr. 30. 1789.".. A scarce and highly popular collectable display piece, Recalling the chopping down of the cherry tree.. These souvenir hatchets are copied in several variations being cast in bronze, iron and aluminum.. This example is truly special..See pics for details.. Thanks for looking..
